Congratulations to St. Patrick’s High School Best Buddies Chapter on receiving National recognition!
The focus of the Best Buddies program is to enhance the experiences of people with intellectual disabilities by giving them the chance to have experiences which most people take for granted. World-wide, 45 countries are involved in the program and, it has been operating in Canada for 22 years. Students are matched with people with intellectual disabilities who share common interests and run events such as the Best Buddies Hoops fundraiser. There are 450 chapters throughout Canada.
This year, St. Patrick’s High School has been selected as one of the top 20 Best Buddies schools in the country! Steven Pinnock in a letter to the school stated that St. Patrick’s High Schools was selected, “ . . . based on a number of important factors including demonstrating commitment to inclusion, and going beyond expectations of running our Best Buddies program. Carol David and Daniela Drysdale along with the entire Best Buddies Chapter team have exceeded these criteria.”
We are not surprised that Best Buddies has received this wonderful recognition as they exemplify the core values in our St. Pat’s Family Creed such as, “We celebrate our diversity by being respectful and sensitive towards each other” and “We have a positive attitude and play an important role by recognizing our God-given talents - using them to positively impact our Irish family.”
