Spring School Clinic Reminder for Grade 7 parents

What?  Ottawa Public Health vaccine clinics at your child’s school

When? This Spring 2019.  See link below for dates

                http://www.parentinginottawa.ca/en/youth/Immunization.aspx

How does my child get the vaccine?

·         All students in grade 7, (students born in 2006) last fall received a package at school with a consent form for hepatitis B, human papillomavirus (HPV) and meningococcal disease vaccines

·         If you signed the consent form, or called OPH to give verbal consent for your child to receive the vaccine then we already have the consent on file and we can give your child the vaccines your child needs when we come to your child’s school

My child was supposed to get a vaccine in the Fall but it never happened!

·         Grade 7’s or 8’s who missed the Fall clinic, or if the nurses were unable to complete your child’s immunization because the clinic ran out of time, will be able to receive their vaccines at the Spring clinic.

On the day of the school clinic, remind your child to:

·         Eat a good breakfast.

·         Bring an extra juice or snack to school.

·         Wear short sleeves or a loose shirt so that the upper arm can be exposed easily, without undressing.

·         Bring something small (special token, a book, a cell phone) to use as a distraction

Please note for safety, confidentiality and efficiency, we are not able to accommodate parents who wish to remain with their child during immunization in our school clinics. To discuss alternatives such as bringing your child to our daily Constellation clinic and evening catch-up clinics please call  613-PARENTS.

If your child is new to this School and if you have questions about the grade 7 vaccines please call Ottawa Public Health at 613-580-6744 and ask to speak to a nurse.
