Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked together through this challenging time.  The Ministry of Education has now given permission for students to temporarily access the school to retrieve their personal belongings.   Ottawa Public Health has approved the temporary access protocols below.

IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO READ THIS ENTIRE LETTER AND THE DIRECTIONS THOROUGHLY.

Please note that Ottawa Public Health will not allow your entry into the school if any of the following conditions exist:

  • If you or your child(ren) have any of the following symptoms:

    • Common symptoms – fever, cough, or difficulty breathing;

    • Less common symptoms – unexplained fatigue, delirium (a serious medical condition that involves confusion, changes to memory, and odd behaviours), falls, acute functional decline, worsening of chronic conditions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, chills, headaches, croup, or loss of taste/smell;

    • New or worsening respiratory symptoms – sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, hoarse voice, or difficulty swallowing.

  • If you have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days (including the United States of America)

  • If you live with, provided care for, or spent extensive time with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, suspected to have COVID-19 or who has a fever, cough or shortness of breath that started within 14 days of travel outside of Canada (including the United States of America).

If any of these situations apply to you, please let us know and we will make other arrangements for you to retrieve your personal belongings. Contact your homeroom teacher if this is the case.

If you are not restricted from accessing the school, please read all of the following carefully:”

Process for locker cleanup

  • This process should take 10-15 minutes maximum. A staff member will remain with you (with a 2 metre distance) at all times.

  • DRESS FOR THE WEATHER - you may be waiting in line for a little while - please dress accordingly.

  • Maintain a 2 metre distance while you are waiting in line by remaining on the marked path.

  • Entrance to the school will be through the MAIN DOORS ONLY. Please enter the school by yourself - only one person will be permitted.

  • Bring a BACKPACK or a garbage bag with you to retrieve your items from your locker. A backpack will allow your hands to be free and easier movement for you.

  • Ensure that you have your LOCKER COMBINATION with you.  If you have forgotten your locker combination, please contact your homeroom teacher to make arrangements

  • Upon entering the school you will be asked to wash your hands using the provided hand sanitizer.

  • You will notice (tape/pilons) at the entrances/exits and in areas designated for the return of school items.  Please ensure that you do not proceed past these markers until there is no one ahead of you.  These markers are to assist you in keeping 2 metres (6 feet) when accessing areas where others may also be present.

  • We are asking that you wear a mask if you have one.  If you do not have a mask, then you can still access the school, but be mindful to remain 2 metres (6 feet) away from anyone else in the school at all times.

  • Bring your own pen/pencil as you may need it to sign-in/out and to label your items being returned.

  • Wash your hands again after signing in and then proceed directly to your locker. You will have a staff member to escort you to your locker, maintaining 2 metres distance.

  • Completely empty your locker and take your lock with you.

  • Any garbage from your locker should either be taken with you or placed in the garbage pails that will be located in the hallways

  • Leave your locker door open when you leave.

Return of School items

  • If you have any books or other school items (instruments, library books, team uniforms, etc.) to return you will be able to do this in the gym on your way out. PLEASE CLEARLY LABEL ALL MATERIALS WITH YOUR FULL NAME.

  • You may also donate any used uniform that you will not need next year. There will be a location designated for this as you enter the school, and again in the gym when exiting.

  • Please keep any items that are critical for you to continue learning at home and these will be returned at another time.

  • Grads and any students not returning to St. Pat’s in the fall are asked to please return chromebooks that were borrowed. For other students who borrowed a chromebook, you may continue to borrow it to continue your learning.  Please ensure that the chromebook and the power cord have your name labelled on them.

Signing Out

  • Please check-out as you leave the school via the GYM DOORS.

  • When leaving the school please ensure that you wash your hands and only exit when there is no one else within 2 metres (6 feet) of the entrance.

Please know that our entire staff is saddened by the events that have impacted your school year.  We all look forward to some return to normal.  Our primary focus continues to be on your safety and the well-being of our entire Irish Family.

Take care,

Carrie-Lynn Bowie

Principal, St. Patrick’s High School
